Karina is a magic Assassin built around one precise idea: finish a vulnerable hero, earn a Shadow Assault reset, and continue the chain before the enemy team can reorganize. She clears quickly, blocks Basic Attacks with Dance of Blades, and turns repeated contacts into lost-HP True Damage through Shadow Combo. Her strongest fights start after allied control lands, not when she is the first hero seen.

Karina hero overview, role, specialty, and attribute bars in-game.
Karina is an Assassin with Finisher and Magic Damage specialties. She is strongest as a jungle cleanup carry who converts one low-health target into repeated Ultimate access.
Choose Karina when teammates can start fights, group enemies, or force defensive skills first. She punishes Basic-Attack-heavy backlines and immobile damage dealers.
Heavy crowd control, durable frontliners, and instant defensive effects can deny the first kill. If the draft has no engager, Karina may be forced into the exact first-entry role she wants to avoid.
Keep jungle tempo, arrive at objectives with Retribution available, attack from a side angle, and start each reset chain on the enemy most likely to die.

Karina's third consecutive attack on the same enemy deals extra True Damage equal to 100 plus 5 (+2.5% Total Magic Power)% of the target's lost HP, capped at 2000 True Damage against creeps. Against an enemy hero, the hit also reduces the cooldowns of her non-Ultimate skills by 1.5 seconds.
When / why / do not: Count contacts on one target and use the third hit as the payoff. This makes short skill-and-Basic-Attack chains more valuable than random target switching. Do not split the first two contacts across different enemies if the third-hit True Damage is needed to finish.

Karina enters Dance of Blades for 3.5 seconds, gains 45% extra Movement Speed, blocks incoming Basic Attacks, and reflects 100 (+30% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage with a 0.4-second reflection cooldown. Her next Basic Attack deals 150 (+55% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage, slows by 45% for 1 second, and is guaranteed to Crit.
When / why / do not: Use it to cross a marksman's Basic Attack window, change angle, and deliver the enhanced hit. It ends early when the enhanced Basic Attack or Shadow Assault is cast, so decide whether speed, protection, or immediate damage matters most. Do not treat it as protection from skills or crowd control.

Karina spins and deals 375 (+125% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to nearby enemies.
When / why / do not: Use the fast area hit after entering melee range, between Basic Attacks, or when several low-health targets can be prepared for resets. Its short cooldown rewards repeated cycles. Do not walk through control just to hit several enemies when one safe target would start the reset chain.

Karina dashes to an enemy hero, deals 350 (+160% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage, applies a Shadow Mark, and leaves a Shadowform. Both last 5 seconds. If the marked enemy dies during that window, the cooldown resets. Casting again returns Karina to the Shadowform and deals 150 (+50% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage along the path.
When / why / do not: Enter only when the marked target can realistically die or the return path creates a safe exit. The reset is Karina's team-fight engine, while the second cast is both repositioning and damage. Do not spend the first dash on a durable frontliner unless the kill or path is guaranteed.

Dance of Blades → enhanced Basic Attack → Shadow Assault → Dance of Death → Shadow Assault return or reset
Approach with speed and Basic Attack protection, deliver the enhanced hit, then mark the target only after the kill window is real. Use Dance of Death for the fast area hit. Return to the Shadowform if retaliation arrives; follow a reset only when the next target is also reachable.

Dance of Blades → enhanced Basic Attack → Dance of Death → Basic Attack
Use this lower-commitment sequence to clear, trade, or prepare Shadow Combo without spending the Ultimate. Stop when the target reaches safety or enemy control turns toward you.
Start Dance of Death for clear speed, weave Basic Attacks so Shadow Combo triggers on the same monster, and path toward the first objective. Seasoned Hunter and Retribution support Turtle and Lord control. Do not burn Retribution on a routine camp when an immediate contest is forming.
Move with the teammate who can start the fight. Approach from fog, wait for protection or movement skills, and mark the lowest-risk kill. Starlium Scythe and Holy Crystal make the skill-to-hit sequence dangerous, while Sky Piercer rewards clean finishes.
Track crowd control, Winter Crown, Wind of Nature, and escape skills before committing. One missed reset can decide the match. Divine Glaive matters when Magic Defense rises; Winter Crown or a defensive boot can be worth more than another raw damage slot.
A durable first target delays or denies Shadow Assault resets. Enter after the frontline turns and aim for a hero who can actually die.
It blocks Basic Attacks, not every skill or control effect. Read the enemy damage pattern before crossing the frontline.
The passive rewards three consecutive contacts on one enemy. Random target changes throw away the lost-HP True Damage trigger.
The return dash is a planned exit and damage path. Marking from a poor angle leaves Karina with nowhere useful to return.
The five observed builds share a magic burst core but vary boots, sustain, defense, and finisher tools. Choose the final slots for the enemy draft and game state.
Use Rupture, Seasoned Hunter, and Killing Spree with Retribution or Ice Retribution. Rupture supports penetration, Seasoned Hunter improves jungle and objective tempo, and Killing Spree helps Karina survive and move after the first elimination. Do not use the jungle route if another teammate owns Retribution and the jungle economy.
Use Rupture, Seasoned Hunter, and Lethal Ignition with Retribution for a more direct magic-burst route. Choose it when damage conversion matters more than the Assassin Emblem reset pattern. Do not swap casually when Killing Spree sustain is what lets Karina continue a team fight.
A Basic Common Emblem route with Thrill, Seasoned Hunter, and Killing Spree can trade some burst for a safer baseline. Use it only when survival is the limiting factor. It is not the default recommendation for a clean jungle draft.
This current in-game build sample was observed on August 6, 2026. Starlium Scythe and Holy Crystal appeared in all five rows; Sky Piercer and Divine Glaive appeared in four. Two rows chose Tough Boots, two used Concentrated Energy, two used Blood Wings, and two used Queen’s Wings. Flame Hunter is a jungle blessing on Arcane Boots, not a separate base equipment item.

Five ranked in-game build snapshots in displayed order.
| Item | Why it appears | Buy when | Do not buy when | Observed ranks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Arcane Boots | Early movement and Magic Penetration support jungle tempo and fragile-target burst. | Choose when early damage matters more than defensive boots. | Skip when control or magic burst will stop the entry. | 1, 2, 5 |
Tough Boots | Magic Defense and control reduction make the first dive less punishable. | Choose into heavy magic damage or reliable control. | Skip when the enemy cannot interrupt Karina and penetration is more valuable. | 3, 4 |
Sky Piercer | Its finisher pattern matches Karina's low-HP cleanup and Ultimate reset plan. | Choose while ahead and reaching fragile targets consistently. | Skip when behind or forced to hit tanks first. | 1, 2, 3, 4 |
Starlium Scythe | It rewards casting a skill and weaving the next Basic Attack, exactly how Shadow Combo is triggered. | Choose for repeatable skill-to-hit cycles. | Skip when the fight allows only one instant spell rotation. | 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 |
Holy Crystal | The large Magic Power spike scales every part of Karina's burst. | Choose after the core is stable and damage will convert into resets. | Skip when survival or penetration is the urgent problem. | 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 |
Concentrated Energy | Magic Power, HP, and sustain help through close-range skirmishes. | Choose when fights last beyond the first target. | Skip when only maximum one-cycle burst is useful. | 2, 5 |
Divine Glaive | Percentage Magic Penetration keeps damage relevant into Magic Defense. | Choose when enemies start building Magic Defense. | Skip when every priority target remains fragile and utility is more urgent. | 2, 3, 4, 5 |
Blood Wings | High Magic Power plus shielding protects a late-game entry. | Choose when damage and a safety buffer are both valuable. | Skip when a cheaper immediate answer is required. | 1, 5 |
Winter Crown | The active can preserve Karina after committing and buy time for cooldowns or allies. | Choose when retaliation is predictable and the active can be timed. | Skip when its active will be wasted or damage is too low to earn a reset. | 1 |
Queen's Wings | HP and low-health damage reduction create a bruiser-style safety layer. | Choose for long brawls and repeated close-range cycles. | Skip when the team needs Karina to maximize immediate magic burst. | 3, 4 |
Tigreal and Faramis can group enemies so Dance of Death and Shadow Assault reach more value. Let their control start the exchange; Karina should arrive for the finish.
Akai and Khufra can absorb the first rotation and stop the reset path. Track their control before using Shadow Assault.
Karina can cross Basic Attack pressure with Dance of Blades and punish low-mobility marksmen. She still needs to respect shields, allied peel, and ready control.

Karina is a dark-elf assassin from the Shadow Swamp. After tragedy divided her family and Selena was pulled toward the Abyss, Karina rejected the old rules of her people and pursued the forces responsible. Her journey is driven by vengeance, duty, and the hope that she can still bring her sister home.
Starlium Scythe, Holy Crystal, and Divine Glaive form the most repeated magic core in the observed top-five sample. Add Sky Piercer when cleanup is reliable, Concentrated Energy for sustain, Blood Wings for late damage and shielding, or Winter Crown for a safer commit.
Assassin Emblem with Rupture, Seasoned Hunter, and Killing Spree is the default jungle route. Mage Emblem with Lethal Ignition is a higher-burst alternative.
Use Retribution when jungling; Ice Retribution is a practical option when stealing movement speed helps secure the target. Do not give up objective secure when Karina is assigned the jungle role.
Take and prioritize Dance of Death, upgrade Dance of Blades second, and level Shadow Assault whenever available.
Durable control tanks such as Akai and Khufra can survive the first rotation and interrupt her reset. Karina should wait for their control to be spent or bypass them.
Commit when the marked target can die within the five-second window or when the Shadowform creates a safe return path. Avoid using it as a blind opener on full-health frontliners.
Karina succeeds through target discipline. Clear efficiently, arrive second, cross Basic Attack pressure with Dance of Blades, and build three consecutive contacts for Shadow Combo. Shadow Assault should begin a reset chain or create a deliberate return path; if it does neither, the entry is probably too early. Adapt the leaderboard core to enemy control and Magic Defense instead of copying one row unchanged. For nearby jungle decisions, compare the Balmond guide, Martis guide, and Aulus guide.
