Vale hero overview.
Vale is a Mid Lane Mage built around burst and crowd control. His Offense bar is nearly full, Control is high, and both Durability and Difficulty are low. The kit is mechanically direct, but positioning decides whether he ends a fight or disappears before casting.
Your roamer or EXP laner can make first contact, the enemy carries lack instant untargetability, and Turtle or Lord approaches force opponents through predictable corridors. Vale converts half a second of control into a full-area damage chain.
Your draft has no frontline, you must face-check every bush, or Hayabusa- and Ling-style assassins can enter and leave before Windblow lands. Vale needs information and distance more than another damage item.
Own the wave first, disappear from the enemy minimap, and make one airborne target stand inside Windstorm long enough for Wind Blade to finish the chain. Do not spend every spell on the tank if a carry must enter the same choke.

Vale gains 1 stack of Windtalk each time he gets a kill or an assist that increases his Movement Speed by 8. This effect can stack up to 10 times.
When / why / do not: Windtalk grants 8 Movement Speed per kill or assist, up to 10 stacks. Treat stacks as rotation power: arrive earlier, cast from a safer angle, and leave before the counter-engage. Do not chase a lost kill merely to farm a stack; surviving preserves every future rotation.

Windtalk in-game demonstration.

Vale unleashes two wind blades toward the left and right of a target area, each dealing 250 (+80% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to enemies hit.
When / why / do not: Wind Blade sends two blades across a target area and is Vale's reliable wave and burst damage. Aim so the target crosses both lanes after Windblow removes movement choice. Use it to secure priority, but do not empty Mana into harmless poke just before Turtle.

Wind Blade in-game demonstration.

Vale sends a whirlwind in the target direction, dealing 350 (+100% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to enemies hit and knocking them airborne for 0.8s (each enemy can only be knocked airborne 1 time). When the whirlwind reaches its destination, it will remain for 1.6s while continuously dealing a total of 150 (+30% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to enemies in range.
When / why / do not: Windblow deals magic damage, knocks each target airborne once, and leaves a damaging whirlwind at its destination. Lead with it when an enemy enters a narrow path or after allied control. Do not throw it through open space at maximum range when a mobile target can sidestep and dive during the cooldown.

Windblow in-game demonstration.

Vale summons a windstorm at the target location, dealing a total of 150 (+30% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to enemies in the area and slowing them by 20% while continuously pulling them into its center. After 1s, the windstorm will explode, dealing 900 (+240% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage. The remaining whirlwinds will also be pulled into the center.
When / why / do not: Windstorm slows, pulls enemies toward its center, then explodes after one second for the largest burst in Vale's kit. Place it under an airborne target or a forced objective entrance. Do not open with it on an enemy who still has a dash, Flicker, or Purify unless allied control has already removed that option.

Windstorm in-game demonstration.
Windblow → Windstorm → Wind Blade. In teamfights, use Vale's 2nd Skill to knock a line of enemies airborne, then follow up with his Ultimate and 1st Skill for a devastating combo. The airborne window removes the first escape choice, Windstorm occupies the landing point, and Wind Blade supplies the final directed burst. Cast from a side angle so the target cannot simply retreat through your team. Do not place Windstorm before confirming that Windblow or allied control will hold the target.
Windblow → Wind Blade. In the laning phase, use Vale's 2nd Skill to knock the opponent airborne, then follow up with his 1st Skill for damage. Use this shorter chain for lane trades and wave-side pickoffs when the ultimate is unavailable or must be saved for an objective. Walk sideways after the cast instead of toward the target. Do not turn a clean two-spell trade into a dangerous chase.
Take Wind Blade, clear without walking beside the melee minions, and preserve enough Mana for Windblow if the river is contested. Rotate only after the wave is secure. When the enemy mid leaves first, ping the route and take safe priority rather than following through an unchecked bush.
Stand behind the hero who can check vision. Hide the direction of Windblow, then layer Windstorm and Wind Blade on the first valuable catch. Move immediately after casting; Vale has already contributed if the enemy carry must retreat or use a defensive spell.
One death can end the map, so stop showing on side waves without information. Hold a Lord entrance, tower corner, or jungle choke and make the enemy walk into prepared area control. Save Flicker for a cast angle or escape that changes the fight, not for one extra Basic Attack.
Vale has low durability. Let a Tank reveal threats and keep one screen of space so Windblow can start the fight without an assassin starting on you.
The ultimate is easy to leave when no control holds the target. Land Windblow or wait for allied crowd control before committing the explosion zone.
The observed rows share a damage shell, but item order changes with Magic Defense, dive, and snowball pace. Divine Glaive and a defensive slot are decisions, not decorations.
A failed roam that loses mid minions delays the item spike that makes Vale threatening. Clear, disappear, then choose the shortest safe route.
Flicker protects Vale from the first dive and can create the one angle that catches a carry. Keep it for objective fights instead of spending it on a target who can safely recall.
Use Rupture for penetration, Wilderness Blessing for river and jungle rotation speed, and Lethal Ignition to reward a completed burst chain. Flicker fixes Vale's lack of mobility and creates an unexpected Windblow angle. Do not use it forward unless the catch is decisive and the enemy dive route is known.
Keep the same burst-and-rotation talent route when layered crowd control, rather than raw gap closing, prevents the cast. Purify is valuable only if removing the control creates time to reposition and use Windblow. Do not choose it against physical burst that kills Vale after the cleanse.
Dated in-game and external evidence supports the Emblem and spell recommendations.
These rows are a current in-game build sample observed on August 5, 2026. Arcane Boots, Genius Wand, Lightning Truncheon, Blood Wings, and Holy Crystal dominate the sample. Divine Glaive appears in four rows; Sky Piercer appears once. Copy the damage logic only when the draft lets Vale cast safely.

Five ranked in-game builds sampled for comparison.
| Item | Observed tooltip and role | Buy when | Do not buy when | Ranks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Arcane Boots | +40 Movement Speed, +15 Magic Power, and +10 Magic Penetration create the earliest clean burst spike. | the lane and first rotations reward immediate penetration | chain control requires Tough Boots instead | 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 |
Genius Wand | +75 Magic Power, +5% Movement Speed, +10 Magic Penetration, and stacking Magic Defense reduction reward a full combo. | targets have low-to-moderate Magic Defense and can be hit by several parts of the chain | the enemy has already stacked enough defense for Divine Glaive to be the priority | 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 |
Lightning Truncheon | +75 Magic Power, +400 Mana, +10% Cooldown Reduction, and a six-second Resonate hit make wave control become pickoff pressure. | faster clearing and the first burst rotation decide the map | survival is the only reason Vale cannot cast | 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 |
Divine Glaive | +60 Magic Power and 40% Magic Penetration scale against high Magic Defense, with extra penetration capped at 20% by the tooltip. | frontliners or carries have meaningful Magic Defense | targets remain unprotected and Genius Wand has not lost value | 1, 2, 3, 4 |
Blood Wings | +90 Magic Power plus an 800 (+100% Total Magic Power) shield, movement while shielded, and a short speed burst after it breaks add late damage and safety. | Vale needs one more damage slot that also protects his second-position cast | an active defensive tool is required against unavoidable dive | 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 |
Holy Crystal | +165 Magic Power and 21–35% extra Magic Power with level make every successful spell chain scale harder. | the team can protect Vale long enough to complete the combo | penetration or survival is missing first | 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 |
Sky Piercer | +60 Adaptive Attack, +15 Movement Speed, and a stacking execute threshold reward a snowball but lose value on death. | Vale is already securing kills and can protect the stacks | the game is even, deaths are likely, or Magic Defense is the real barrier | 5 |
Equipment effects from 30 in-game long-press tooltips.
Lolita and Belerick give Vale a body to stand behind and a visible first contact to layer. Wait for their control or counter-engage, then aim Windblow through the target's escape lane. Do not walk beside them into the same area damage.
Hayabusa and Ling can become difficult to target and punish the cast window; Gloo can keep pressure attached through a fight. Hold Windblow for the exit point, preserve Flicker, and do not reveal from the front of a bush.
Terizla and Hilda must cross predictable space, letting Vale kite with range and movement. Odette is especially vulnerable when Windblow interrupts her position before her channel gains value. Respect flanks; a favorable range pattern does not make face-checking safe.
Valentina can follow Vale's catch with flexible burst and copied-ultimate pressure. Aurora overlaps with the same stationary magic-catch role and can leave the draft short on mobility and sustained damage. Choose the partner who fills a missing job.

Vale is the heir to Wind Fort and a gifted wind mage. While writing to Valir, he remembers the royal party where their friendship began, the places they traveled together, and the unrest that pulled Valir back toward the Fire Kingdom. Vale kept waiting for their pact and refined magic he had never shown anyone, hoping that one display of wind could remind Valir of their shared past and bring his closest friend home.
The five-row snapshot centers on Arcane Boots, Genius Wand, Lightning Truncheon, Blood Wings, and Holy Crystal. Add Divine Glaive when Magic Defense rises; use a defensive alternative when dive prevents the cast.
Use Mage Emblem with Rupture, Wilderness Blessing, and Lethal Ignition for penetration, faster rotations, and a stronger completed burst chain.
Flicker is the default because it fixes position and creates catch angles. Purify is the alternative when layered crowd control is the exact reason Vale cannot cast.
Take and prioritize Wind Blade, keep Windblow as the backup upgrade, and level Windstorm whenever it is available.
Hayabusa and Ling are major threats because their mobility and untargetable windows punish Vale's cast timing. Gloo also keeps persistent pressure attached to the low-durability mage.
Pick him when allies can start contact and objectives force enemies through narrow space. Avoid him when the team lacks vision control or the enemy draft can dive from several angles.
Vale wins by removing movement choice, not by racing to press every spell. Clear the wave, rotate from fog, let a frontline reveal the target, and chain Windblow into Windstorm and Wind Blade. The observed builds supply extreme magic damage, but position remains the real defense. For related Mid Lane plans, compare the Vexana guide, Odette guide, and Gord guide.
