Gord is a long-range Mage who controls space with a bouncing stun, a persistent damage field, and a steerable beam. He is strongest when a front line holds targets in place and weakest when a diver crosses his range before Mystic Projectile can stop the approach.

Quick Answer: How Should You Build and Play Gord?

Take Mystic Injunction at level 1, prioritize it, keep Mystic Projectile as the backup upgrade, and level Mystic Gush whenever available. The observed build sample repeatedly uses Glowing Wand, Sky Piercer, Ice Queen Wand, and magic penetration. Use Mage Emblem with Agility, Wilderness Blessing, and War Cry; take Flicker by default and Sprint when sustained movement is the more valuable escape.

  • Pick Gord when: allies can hold enemies inside his damage zones.
  • Adapt when: mobile assassins can reach the back line or early magic defense reduces the beam.
  • Default rule: stun first, place the field under the controlled target, then channel the beam from a protected angle.

Gord Skills: Mechanics and Decisions

Mystic Favor skill iconMystic Favor

After Gord hits an enemy 4 times with skills within a short period of time, the next skill damage will deal an additional 140 (+8*Hero Level) (+40% Total Magic Power) True Damage and slow them by 20% for 1s (the slow effect stacks up to 2 times).

Build four skill hits on a target you can keep in range

Why it works

the next hit adds True Damage and a stacking slow

Do not

Do not chase only to force the passive proc

Mystic Projectile skill iconMystic Projectile

Gord conjures a Mystic Orb that bounces in the target direction and explodes on the first enemy hit, dealing 225 (+65% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to enemies in the area, while stunning them and revealing their locations for 1s.

Use it when

Bounce it through a minion or directly into a grouped approach

Why it works

the explosion stuns and reveals targets for one second

Do not

Do not throw it blindly when a diver is waiting to enter

Mystic Injunction skill iconMystic Injunction

Gord creates an energy field in the target area, dealing 30 (+10% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage every 0.25s to enemies within (up to 16 times).

Mystic Gush skill iconMystic Gush

Gord unleashes an energy beam in the target direction, dealing 110 (+32% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to enemies hit every 0.2s (up to 16 times). The direction of the beam can be adjusted using the Joystick.

Do not

Do not channel in open ground before enemy gap closers are committed

Gord Skill Priority and Combos

Skill upgrade priority

Take Mystic Injunction at level 1 and prioritize Skill 2, use Mystic Projectile as the backup upgrade, and level Mystic Gush whenever available. This maximizes lane control and repeated damage while keeping the stun ready for setup or self-protection.

Teamfight combo

Mystic Projectile combo stepMystic ProjectileMystic Injunction combo stepMystic InjunctionMystic Gush combo stepMystic Gush

Order: Mystic Projectile → Mystic Injunction → Mystic Gush. Why: the stun keeps the target inside the field and creates a safe opening for the beam. Do not: commit Mystic Gush when the stun misses or a diver still has direct access to Gord.

Laning combo

Order: Mystic Projectile → Mystic Injunction → Mystic Gush. Why: the stun keeps the target inside the field and creates a safe opening for the beam. Do not: commit Mystic Gush when the stun misses or a diver still has direct access to Gord.

How to Play Gord by Game Phase

Early game

Use Mystic Injunction to clear efficiently without walking into melee range. Save Mystic Projectile when the river side is dark, then rotate early enough to establish a safe angle before Turtle.

Mid game

Play behind the first control hero. Zone entrances with the field, punish a committed target with the full combo, and move after every wave so assassins cannot predict a static position.

Late game

One lost position can end the match. Keep Flicker or Sprint for the second threat, channel Mystic Gush across the objective pit rather than from its center, and stop the beam when survival matters more than one extra tick.

Five Gord Mistakes That Lose Teamfights

  1. Using the stun only for poke. Mystic Projectile is Gord’s main self-peel; keep it when a diver is missing.
  2. Placing the field before control. Lead with the stun so enemies cannot leave Mystic Injunction for free.
  3. Channeling from open ground. A wall, bush edge, or tank should block the shortest dive route.
  4. Copying Sky Piercer every match. It is strongest when kills build Lethality stacks; a losing game may need safer damage or defense.
  5. Ignoring beam steering. Adjust Mystic Gush with the joystick, but do not overcorrect and expose the flank.

Best Gord Emblem and Battle Spell

Default control route

Mage Emblem: Agility, Wilderness Blessing, War Cry. Battle Spell: Flicker.

Use it when

safe positioning and rotations decide whether Gord can cast

Why it works

movement helps set the angle, War Cry rewards multi-hit damage, and Flicker repairs one dangerous position

Do not

Do not spend Flicker for low-value poke before Turtle or Lord

Sustained-movement alternative

Mage Emblem: Agility, Wilderness Blessing, Impure Rage. Battle Spell: Sprint.

Use it when

slows and extended pursuit are the main danger

Why it works

Sprint preserves distance longer while Impure Rage supports repeated spell trading

Do not

Do not choose Sprint as an answer to unavoidable hard control

Gord Counters and Team Synergy

Reliable front-line partners

Hylos hero iconBelerick hero icon

Hylos and Belerick bring durable control that holds targets inside Mystic Injunction and gives Gord a protected beam angle.

Divers to respect

Fanny hero iconLancelot hero icon

Fanny and Lancelot cross Gord’s preferred range quickly. Track their entry tools and save Mystic Projectile or Flicker for the real dive.

Targets Gord controls well

Barats hero iconFredrinn hero icon

Barats and Fredrinn are easier to zone than highly mobile assassins. Kite their approach and punish the time they spend inside the field.

Awkward pairing

Vale hero icon

Gord and Vale can overlap ranged magic damage while leaving the lineup short on durable setup. If both are drafted, require reliable crowd control elsewhere.

Gord Story

Gord’s talent made him one of the Magic Academy’s most promising students, but confidence turned into arrogance. A confrontation with forbidden magic transformed his body and forced him to understand the cost of uncontrolled power. He later chose discipline and teaching, becoming dean of the Icarus School and guiding students away from the same mistake.

Gord FAQ

What is Gord’s best build?

Glowing Wand, Sky Piercer, Ice Queen Wand, and Divine Glaive form the common observed core, but Sky Piercer is conditional on maintaining stacks.

What is Gord’s best Emblem?

Mage Emblem with Agility, Wilderness Blessing, and War Cry is the default multi-hit route. Impure Rage is a mana and poke alternative.

What is Gord’s combo?

Mystic Projectile into Mystic Injunction and Mystic Gush: stun, zone, then channel.

Fast gap closers such as Fanny and Lancelot punish his limited mobility and channel time.

Is Gord good for beginners?

His spell order is clear, but success still depends on positioning, stun discipline, and knowing when to cancel the beam.

Verdict: Is Gord Worth Learning?

Yes. Gord rewards clean spacing, objective setup, and disciplined control. He is especially effective when a durable ally can keep enemies inside his field and beam. Compare the Tigreal guide, Franco guide, and Saber guide for nearby team-composition decisions.
