Yu Zhong is an EXP Lane Fighter who wins long trades by reaching five Sha Residue stacks, healing through the return damage, and using Black Dragon Form to reach targets the front line cannot protect. His strongest pattern is deliberate: slow first, reposition for Dragon Tail's outer edge, land the empowered Basic Attack, then let Cursing Touch turn low HP into momentum.
Yu Zhong is a Fighter with Regen/Damage. His 2,520 HP, 11.8 HP Regen, 129 Physical Attack, and 245 Movement Speed support aggressive early trades, but his real durability comes from completing Cursing Touch rather than standing still and absorbing damage. He uses no Mana, so cooldowns, health, and wave position are the resources that govern each exchange.
These level-one values exclude equipment, emblem, skin, and match modifiers.

Passive / Buff
Yu Zhong applies Sha Residue whenever he damages an enemy hero. At five stacks, it erupts and consumes one stack every 0.4 seconds, dealing damage based partly on the target's lost HP, restoring 6% of Yu Zhong's lost HP per consumed stack, and granting 30% Movement Speed for three seconds.

Use it well: Commit when you can reach five stacks, then use the healing and Movement Speed to continue through the back line or leave before the next control chain.
Avoid: Do not spread light damage across several targets when one eruption would decide the trade. The sustain arrives only after the fifth stack.

Skill 1 / AOE
After a short delay, Yu Zhong swings his cloak around him. The inner area deals Physical Damage, while the sharpened outer edge deals 275% damage and applies two stacks of Sha Residue.

Use it well: Reposition with Furious Dive so the outer edge lands on the target. This is the most important repeatable hit for damage and passive stacking.
Avoid: Do not stand directly on top of the target unless survival demands it. The inner circle gives up most of the skill's pressure.

Skill 2 / Slow / Mobility
Yu Zhong sends the Dragon Soul forward, damaging and slowing enemies by 60% for one second. A hit empowers his next Basic Attack; hitting multiple enemies increases the enhanced attack's damage and Sha Residue stacks.

Use it well: Hit the hero through a minion wave when possible, then deliver the enhanced Basic Attack before the window expires. The slow also sets up Furious Dive and Dragon Tail.
Avoid: Do not use the skill only for poke and walk away from the empowered attack. Much of its lane value is stored in that follow-up hit.

Skill 3 / Mobility / CC
Yu Zhong leaps to a chosen area, deals Physical Damage, and can dash once more in his movement direction. After a short delay, the area knocks enemies airborne for 0.6 seconds and deals additional damage.

Use it well: Use the second movement to line up Dragon Tail's outer edge, or leave the delayed knock-up under the route an enemy must cross.
Avoid: Do not spend both movements before the enemy reveals an escape. Without the reposition, Dragon Tail becomes easier to avoid and Yu Zhong can be kited.

Ultimate / Morph / Buff
After a 0.6-second channel, Yu Zhong becomes the Black Dragon for up to seven seconds. He ignores obstacles, cannot use other skills, gains Max HP and control immunity, and knocks back enemy heroes in his path. Exiting creates Dragonoid Form, which increases all skill ranges for ten seconds.

Use it well: Cross terrain into the back line, disrupt enemy spacing, then exit near a priority target and use the longer Dragonoid ranges for the full basic-skill combo.
Avoid: Do not transform only to fly in a straight line through the front tank. Use terrain and the control immunity to reach the target your normal form cannot access.
Learn Dragon Tail at level one and prioritize it. Use Furious Dive and Soul Grip as secondary levels, then upgrade Black Dragon Form whenever it is available. The outer edge of Dragon Tail is the repeatable lane tool that most reliably adds damage and Sha Residue.
Use the Fighter Emblem with Thrill, Festival of Blood, and War Cry. Thrill strengthens early damage, Festival of Blood adds Spell Vamp for the repeated skill hits Yu Zhong wants, and War Cry rewards the same extended sequence that triggers Cursing Touch. Petrify is the general spell because a short stop can secure Dragon Tail's outer edge, Furious Dive's delayed knock-up, and the empowered Basic Attack.
Vengeance is a defensive alternative into teams that must stay close and deal sustained damage. Flicker can solve a specific engage or escape problem, but it gives up Petrify's reliable stack-completion window.

Use the item notes below to decide what each slot contributes. The table describes each item independently of the numbered builds.
| Item | What it adds | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
Warrior Boots | Movement Speed and Physical Defense, with stacking Physical Defense after taking Physical Damage. | Choose into repeated Physical Damage and lane Basic Attacks; switch to Tough Boots when Magic Damage or control is the greater obstacle. |
War Axe | Physical Attack, HP, Cooldown Reduction, Hybrid Lifesteal, stacking combat Attack, and bonus true damage at full stacks. | Buy early for extended fights; Yu Zhong naturally stays in combat long enough to stack Fighting Spirit and use the lifesteal. |
Queen's Wings | HP, Adaptive Attack, Cooldown Reduction, Spell Vamp, low-HP damage reduction, faster skill recovery, and more damage as HP falls. | Prioritize when Yu Zhong must survive the enemy's first response after diving. Its low-HP window supports passive healing and another skill cycle. |
Oracle | HP, hybrid defense, Cooldown Reduction, and 25% stronger shields and HP regeneration received. | Buy when Cursing Touch, Queen's Wings, allied healing, or shields need stronger recovery; move direct resistance earlier into concentrated burst. |
Brute Force Breastplate | HP, Physical Defense, Cooldown Reduction, stacking Adaptive Attack and Movement Speed, plus control-duration reduction at full stacks. | Use against sustained Physical pressure and control-heavy skirmishes where repeated hits can maintain its stacks. |
Malefic Roar | Physical Attack and percentage Physical Penetration that increases against higher enemy Physical Defense. | Move earlier when front liners stack Physical Defense; delay it against fragile teams that cannot survive the core fighter items. |
Tough Boots | Movement Speed, Magic Defense, and 25% shorter control and slow duration. | Use against Magic Damage and control chains that prevent Yu Zhong from finishing five Sha Residue stacks. |
Hunter Strike | High Physical Attack, Cooldown Reduction, Physical Penetration, and a Movement Speed burst after repeated hits. | Add when the priority target can be reached but is escaping before the combo finishes; delay it when immediate durability matters more. |
Rose Gold Meteor | Physical Attack, Attack Speed, Lifesteal, scaling hybrid defense, and a low-HP shield with Movement Speed. | Choose when Magic or mixed burst hits before Cursing Touch can restore HP; it is the defensive finish in Build 5. |
Build 1 uses Warrior Boots, War Axe, Queen's Wings, Oracle, Brute Force Breastplate, and Malefic Roar. It is the balanced Physical-pressure route: early boot defense, extended-fight damage, low-HP durability, stronger recovery, then armor penetration. Builds 2 and 3 are identical: Tough Boots, Hunter Strike, War Axe, Queen's Wings, Oracle, and Malefic Roar. Choose them when Magic Damage or control makes Tough Boots necessary and Hunter Strike's penetration and Movement Speed help reach the back line.
Build 4 buys War Axe before Tough Boots, then follows with Hunter Strike, Queen's Wings, Oracle, and Malefic Roar. Take that order only when the lane is safe enough to secure the damage engine first. Build 5 uses Tough Boots, War Axe, Queen's Wings, Oracle, Brute Force Breastplate, and Rose Gold Meteor. It gives up Malefic Roar for a shield and mixed-defense finish when surviving burst matters more than cutting through armor.
Adjust before the final slot. Move Malefic Roar earlier against stacked Physical Defense. Choose Brute Force Breastplate into sustained Physical pressure and repeated control. Use Rose Gold Meteor when Magic or mixed burst lands before Cursing Touch can restore HP. Oracle is strongest when Yu Zhong already has enough health to survive until its recovery amplification matters.

Black Dragon Form → exit into Dragonoid Form → Soul Grip → Furious Dive → Dragon Tail → enhanced Basic Attack. Fly through terrain and disturb the enemy formation, exit beside the back line, slow the priority target, reposition around the delayed knock-up, and place Dragon Tail's outer edge through the target before consuming the enhanced attack.

Soul Grip → Furious Dive → Dragon Tail → enhanced Basic Attack. Cast Soul Grip through the wave when possible, leap onto the target, use the second movement to line up the outer edge, then finish the stack cycle with the empowered hit and Cursing Touch eruption.

Thamuz can hold the front while Yu Zhong attacks a different layer. Vexana and Xavier provide control that makes the outer edge and delayed knock-up easier to land.

Aulus and Zilong must fight close and have difficulty avoiding every part of the early stack cycle.

Lesley and Karrie can keep moving while damaging Yu Zhong, and Masha can punish a prolonged close-range commitment. Save the second dive movement and approach from terrain.

Terizla creates another slow EXP front liner without automatically solving back-line access. Make sure the rest of the draft supplies control or ranged follow-up.

Yu Zhong is the reincarnation of the Black Dragon. He seeks to unite the Cadia Riverlands through conquest and believes his rule can usher in an era of prosperity. That ambition places him against the Great Dragon's order and drives the conflict behind his return.
His Black Dragon identity is reflected directly in the kit: the ultimate ignores normal terrain and control, then Dragonoid Form extends every skill so Yu Zhong can impose his will on the formation he has just broken.
Start with Warrior or Tough Boots, then build around War Axe, Queen's Wings, and Oracle. Add Hunter Strike for access, Malefic Roar against armor, Brute Force Breastplate against sustained Physical pressure, or Rose Gold Meteor against burst.
Fighter Emblem with Thrill, Festival of Blood, and War Cry supports early damage, sustain, and extended combos.
Petrify is the default because it helps secure Dragon Tail's outer edge, the delayed Furious Dive knock-up, and the empowered Basic Attack.
Use Soul Grip, Furious Dive, Dragon Tail's outer edge, and the enhanced Basic Attack. In team fights, enter first with Black Dragon Form and begin that sequence after reaching Dragonoid Form.
Thamuz can share front-line pressure, while Vexana and Xavier provide control that helps Yu Zhong land his delayed skills.
Mobile marksmen such as Lesley and Karrie can kite his delayed areas. Masha is also difficult in a prolonged close-range fight.
Yu Zhong rewards exact spacing and full commitment to a completed stack cycle. Land Dragon Tail's outer edge, count Sha Residue, use the wave to strengthen Soul Grip's follow-up, and make Black Dragon Form change the fight's angle. Build enough durability to survive until Cursing Touch erupts, then use its healing and Movement Speed to keep pressure on the back line.
