Johnson is a Tank/Support roamer who turns map movement into initiation. Pick him when one ally can convert a crash into burst or chained control. Avoid him when the enemy draft has several untargetable, highly mobile, or anti-engage heroes and your team cannot name a useful passenger.

When Johnson's HP drops below 30%, he gains a 300 (+700% Total Physical Defense) shield for 10s. Cooldown: 100s.
When: Track the passive before a dangerous engage; extra Physical Defense increases the shield value.
Do not: Do not assume the shield will rescue a second reckless engage while its long cooldown is unavailable.

Johnson throws his wrench toward the target location, dealing 120 (+220% Total Physical Defense) Magic Damage to enemies in its path. Enemies around the landing point are stunned for 0.8s.
When: Throw Impact Wrench after a crash or into a narrow escape path to add another stun.
Do not: Do not throw it before the target commits mobility when patience creates an easier hit.

Johnson raises his shield, continuously dealing 120 (+60% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to enemies in a fan-shaped area in the target direction, reducing their Movement Speed and Magic Defense by 10% (stacks up to 3 times) for 2s. While his shield is raised, Johnson can perform Basic Attacks and cast skills.
When: Keep Electromagnetic Waves aimed through the target while using Basic Attacks and Impact Wrench.
Do not: Do not turn away from the target and waste the repeated damage and slow window.

Passive: Johnson's Physical Defense is increased by 10%. Active: Johnson transforms into a car. Nearby allied heroes can use Hop In to ride with him (only 1 at a time). When the car hits an enemy hero, it explodes and deals 300 (+240% Total Physical Defense)–450 (+360% Total Physical Defense) Magic Damage to nearby enemies, stunning them for 0.5–1s (scales with driving time). It also creates an electrified zone at the location that continuously deals 60 (+20% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage and slows enemies within. Johnson's location is revealed to enemies for 3s when he casts this skill.
When: Call the passenger and destination before transforming, then use jungle angles to shorten the enemy reaction window.
Do not: Do not drive through obvious open lanes or crash without allied follow-up.

Unlock Electromagnetic Waves at level 1, prioritize Electromagnetic Waves, keep Impact Wrench as the backup upgrade, and level Full Throttle whenever available. This matches the local official-data priority and keeps Johnson's most reliable clearing and post-crash pressure available more often.

Why: Full Throttle with a passenger, crash the priority target, activate Electromagnetic Waves, then land Impact Wrench to extend control.
Do not: Do not start the drive before the passenger and follow-up route are clear.

Why: Impact Wrench to stun, move in with Electromagnetic Waves, and weave Basic Attacks while keeping the cone on target.
Do not: Do not chase past vision after the stun if the opposing jungler is missing.
Help the jungler without draining a lane's experience, use Impact Wrench to protect river entrances, and reach level 4 on time. Avoid low-information drives before teammates can follow.
Rotate from fog with a burst passenger. Aim for isolated carries, then stay in front with Electromagnetic Waves and a second Impact Wrench instead of leaving immediately.
Drive for vision pressure, but crash only when the target and passenger can decide the fight. Adapt the final defense slots to the enemy carry and save Immortality for Lord or base fights.
A dramatic crash is not useful if nobody can convert the stun into damage or more control.
Long straight lanes give mobile targets time to sidestep. Enter from fog and turn through jungle walls.
Saving the stun often extends the landing control window and prevents the target from escaping.
Blade Armor is for Basic Attacks, Antique Cuirass is for physical skills, Athena's Shield is for burst magic, and Radiant Armor is for repeated magic hits.
Electro Airbag has a long cooldown. Track it before taking the next high-risk engage.
Tank Emblem: Firmness, Tenacity, and Concussive Blast. Firmness adds early defense that also supports Johnson's Physical Defense scaling, Tenacity helps when his HP drops, and Concussive Blast adds reliable post-crash area damage. Battle Spell: Vengeance when Johnson must survive in the middle of the enemy team.
Do not: activate Vengeance before the enemy commits meaningful damage.
Support Emblem with Agility, Pull Yourself Together, and Focusing Mark suits faster rotations and ally-focused pickoffs. Petrify can extend a crash chain; Flicker is the safer alternative when repositioning matters more than one extra control beat.
The August 2026 Johnson build reference supports the Tank/Vengeance default and Support/Petrify alternative; accessed August 9, 2026.
These rows are a dated in-game build sample from August 8, 2026, not a permanent ranking. The sample favors defense, cooldown reduction, and roaming tempo; change boots and resistance slots for the enemy draft.
| Rank | Player shown | WR / Matches / Power | Six-item order | When to copy | When not to |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ROnSkie | 81% / 526 / 12367 | Rapid Boots → Dominance Ice → Antique Cuirass → Blade Armor → Immortality → Chastise Pauldron | You need rapid rotations plus layered physical defense and anti-heal. | Burst magic or long control makes different boots and resistance urgent. |
| 2 | CEDXVI | 69% / 777 / 12319 | Magic Shoes → Fleeting Time → Dominance Ice → Guardian Helmet → Antique Cuirass → Blade Armor | Frequent assists can reset Full Throttle through Fleeting Time. | The team is not converting crashes into takedowns. |
| 3 | TheChefWho... | 84% / 535 / 11804 | Magic Shoes → Fleeting Time → Dominance Ice → Athena's Shield → Blade Armor → Immortality | You need cooldown reduction, anti-heal, burst magic defense, and anti-Basic-Attack armor. | Physical skill burst is the main threat. |
| 4 | nao e o TERES | 76% / 528 / 11637 | Warrior Boots → Antique Cuirass → Guardian Helmet → Blade Armor → Radiant Armor → Chastise Pauldron | Sustained mixed damage requires Guardian Helmet recovery and Radiant Armor. | The enemy mage deals one front-loaded burst instead. |
| 5 | Lucien Clegane | 65% / 773 / 11630 | Warrior Boots → Dominance Ice → Fleeting Time → Blade Armor → Chastise Pauldron → Immortality | The enemy marksman attacks quickly and late-game resurrection can buy a second control cycle. | Magic burst kills before Chastise Pauldron can recover HP. |

| Item | Observed effect | When to buy | When to skip | Observed ranks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Rapid Boots | +55 Movement Speed +35% Slow Reduction +12 HP Regen | Use for faster map rotations and pickoff routes when enemy slows are limited. | Swap when control or repeated damage removes the speed too easily. | 1 |
Dominance Ice | +40 Physical Defense +40 Magic Defense +5% Movement Speed Unique Passive - Fortress Shield: For each enemy hero within 5 units, Hybrid Defense is increased by 8, up to 40. Unique Passive - Lifebane: Reduces Shield and HP Regen effects of nearby enemies within 5 units to 60% of normal for 1 second. | Build early against healing, shields, and mixed nearby damage. | Delay only when a single burst type demands a more specific defense first. | 1, 2, 3, 5 |
Antique Cuirass | +920 HP +40 Physical Defense +4 HP Regen Unique Passive - Deter: When hit by a skill, reduces the attacker's Physical Damage by 6% for 2 seconds (this effect stacks up to 3 times). | Choose into physical skill burst that repeatedly triggers Deter. | Do not treat it as the answer to Basic Attack or magic-heavy teams. | 1, 2, 4 |
Blade Armor | +80 Physical Defense Unique Attribute: +20% Crit Damage Reduction Unique Passive - Bladed Armor: When struck by a Basic Attack, deals Physical Damage equal to 30 (+2% Total Physical Defense)% of the incoming damage (calculated before Damage Reduction) to the attacker and slows them by 15% for 1 second. | Buy against crit and Basic Attack carries that must hit the front line. | Skip when physical damage is mostly ability-based. | 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 |
Immortality | +850 HP +15 Physical Defense Unique Passive - Immortal: Resurrect 2.5 seconds upon death and gets 16% Max HP and a shield that can absorb 150(+70*Hero Level)damage. Shield lasts 3 seconds. This effect has a 210 seconds cooldown. | Use as late-fight insurance when a second control cycle can decide Lord or base defense. | Do not spend the passive on an isolated drive with no follow-up. | 1, 3, 5 |
Chastise Pauldron | +900 HP +40 Physical Defense Unique Passive - Chastise: Taking damage will reduce the Attack Speed and Attack Speed cap of the attacker to 75% of normal for 2 seconds. Unique Passive - Redemption: When incoming damage reduces HP below 30%, recover 20% Max HP over the next 2 seconds. This effect has a 60 seconds cooldown. | Use against fast Basic Attack carries and when the low-HP recovery can buy another control cycle. | Skip when magic burst kills before its recovery matters. | 1, 4, 5 |
Magic Shoes | +40 Movement Speed +10% Cooldown Reduction +150 HP | Use when shorter skill and Ultimate cycles matter more than early durability. | Skip when the enemy can punish the lower defensive opening. | 2, 3 |
Fleeting Time | +30 Adaptive Attack +600 HP +15% Cooldown Reduction Unique Passive - Timestream: Hero kills or assists reduce the Ultimate's current cooldown by 30%. | Choose when assists are frequent and faster Ultimate resets create real cross-map pressure. | Do not buy it before core defense if crashes are not converting to takedowns. | 2, 3, 5 |
Guardian Helmet | +1800 HP +20 HP Regen Unique Passive - Recovery: After 5 seconds out of combat, recover (2.5% Total HP) HP per second. Unique Passive - Defender: Upon taking more than 500 damage in a single instance, recover 30 (+0.3% Total HP)% HP from the excess damage beyond that amount. | Use for repeat rotations that need out-of-combat recovery without recalling. | Delay when anti-heal, burst, or a specific resistance item is more urgent. | 2, 4 |
Athena's Shield | +900 HP +48 Magic Defense +2 HP Regen Unique Passive - Shield: Upon taking Magic Damage from enemy hero skills or Basic Attacks, reduces Magic Damage taken by 25% for 3 seconds (including the damage that triggers the effect)s. Regains this effect 5 seconds after leaving combat. | Use into front-loaded magic burst. | Prefer Radiant Armor against sustained multi-hit magic damage. | 3 |
Warrior Boots | +40 Movement Speed +18 Physical Defense Unique Passive - Valor: Gains 4 extra Physical Defense for 3 seconds when taking Physical Damage, up to 20. | Choose into repeated physical Basic Attack pressure. | Do not default to them against heavy magic damage or long control chains. | 4, 5 |
Radiant Armor | +950 HP +40 Magic Defense +12 HP Regen Unique Passive - Holy Blessing: Taking Magic Damage grants 5(+1*Hero Level) Magic Defense for 5 seconds, up to 6 stacks (can only gain 1 stack(s) every 0.4 seconds). | Use against repeated magic hits and damage-over-time threats. | Do not rely on it against one large magic burst. | 4 |
Odette and Kadita can ride Full Throttle and turn the landing stun into immediate area damage and control. Confirm they are aboard before taking the route.
Harith and Kagura can sidestep predictable drives and punish Johnson with magic damage that ignores his armor-heavy comfort zone. Shorten the approach and adapt magic defense.
Alucard and Zilong must commit into Johnson's Physical Defense and crowd control. Hold Impact Wrench until they enter, then chain the stun with allied damage.

Johnson is a super cyborg defined by speed and travel. His chassis can transform into a car, and his journey eventually carries him into the Land of Dawn, where that mobility becomes a battlefield role: delivering one ally directly into an engagement. Supplemental story references were accessed August 9, 2026.
Vengeance is the default for surviving after the crash. Petrify can extend a pickoff chain, while Flicker is a safer repositioning option.
Prioritize Electromagnetic Waves, upgrade Impact Wrench as the backup, and level Full Throttle whenever available.
Choose an ally who can immediately convert the landing stun into burst or more control, such as Odette or Kadita. Confirm the passenger before starting the drive.
No. Slow down or change the angle when the passenger needs a cleaner cast position, and abandon a bad approach instead of donating two heroes.
Use Blade Armor against Basic Attacks, Antique Cuirass against physical skills, Athena's Shield against burst magic, and Radiant Armor against repeated magic damage.
Johnson is strongest when the drive begins with a passenger, a target, and an exit plan. Build enough Physical Defense to improve both survival and scaling, shorten the enemy's reaction window with fog routes, and adapt the last defense slots to the actual damage pattern.
