Shenhe is a specialist Cryo support. She does not fit every account, but when the team is built around Cryo damage, her Icy Quill buff, Cryo support passives, and Burst resistance shred make her one of the cleanest ways to raise a Cryo carry's ceiling.

Shenhe quick answer: Build Shenhe with enough Energy Recharge to Burst on rotation, then stack ATK%. Favonius Lance is often the most useful 4-star weapon, Calamity Queller is the premium damage choice, and 4pc Noblesse Oblige is the safest team artifact set.
| Slot | Best practical choice | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Role | Cryo buffer and off-field support | Her value is highest when teammates can consume Icy Quill through Cryo hits. |
| Main stats | ATK% or ER sands, ATK% goblet, ATK% or CRIT Rate circlet | ATK increases Icy Quill value; CRIT Rate circlet is only for Favonius consistency. |
| Substats | Energy Recharge > ATK% > CRIT Rate for Favonius > Flat ATK | Burst uptime and team Energy comfort usually beat personal damage. |
| Energy | Plan around an 80-cost Burst | Shenhe feels much worse if Burst is unavailable during the carry's damage window. |
| Talent order | Skill > Burst > Normal Attack | Skill drives Icy Quill; Burst adds field damage, Cryo DMG support, and Cryo/Physical RES shred. |
Shenhe's Elemental Skill grants Icy Quill, adding Cryo damage based on her current ATK when teammates deal Cryo damage. Her Burst creates a field that deals Cryo damage over time and reduces enemy Cryo and Physical resistance. This makes her naturally paired with units who attack in Cryo, not with generic reaction teams that only want a random Cryo applier.
Use Tap Skill in shorter rotations or when Burst/Skill damage is the focus. It is also easier to fit twice in some longer rotations when cooldowns line up.
Use Hold Skill when the carry's Normal, Charged, or Plunging attacks are the main damage type. It is common with Cryo carries who spend more time on-field.
The key is not to spam Shenhe randomly. Use her Skill before the Cryo carry spends their damage window, then make sure the right character consumes the Icy Quill quota.
| Artifact set | Use case | Build note |
|---|---|---|
| Best default team set | Use this unless another support already carries Noblesse. It gives team ATK and works naturally with Shenhe's Burst rotation. | |
| Pure Icy Quill value | Use 2pc ATK + 2pc ATK when Noblesse is already covered. Stack ATK while meeting ER requirements. | |
| Situational reaction support | Only use if no better holder is present and your team can activate the relevant buff cleanly. | |
| Personal damage variant | Acceptable in Freeze or Mono Cryo when another teammate provides Noblesse, but it is usually not the first farm. |
Main stats should usually be ATK% / ATK% / ATK%. Swap the sands to Energy Recharge if Burst uptime is unstable. If Shenhe holds Favonius Lance, a CRIT Rate circlet or CRIT Rate substats can be more valuable than extra ATK because the team particles smooth out the whole rotation.
| Weapon | Priority | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Signature / premium | Highest ceiling for ATK scaling, especially when Shenhe can stay off-field after Skill. | |
| Best practical 4-star | Often the most comfortable choice because it helps Shenhe and her Cryo carry meet Energy needs. | |
| Premium ER option | Strong when you need Energy without sacrificing too much ATK value. | |
| Premium comfort | High Base ATK plus Energy Recharge makes it easy to build. | |
| Damage stat stick | A fine choice when Energy is already solved and team Burst costs are high. | |
| Event F2P option | Good ATK value if you own it and can still meet Energy needs. | |
| Temporary ER option | Usable, but usually better kept for Polearm damage dealers who use the passive harder. |
Level Skill first, then Burst. Normal Attacks can stay low. A standard Cryo support loop is: use Hydro or Anemo setup if it lasts long enough, cast Shenhe Skill, cast Shenhe Burst when needed, swap to the Cryo carry, and spend the buffed window before Icy Quill value is wasted.
| Step | Action | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Set long-duration Hydro, shield, or Anemo support | Freeze and resistance shred need setup before the carry commits field time. |
| 2 | Use Shenhe Skill | Grants Icy Quill and the relevant damage-type buff. |
| 3 | Use Shenhe Burst when available | Adds Cryo field support and resistance shred. |
| 4 | Swap to Cryo carry | Ayaka, Ganyu, Wriothesley, or another Cryo DPS should consume the strongest buff window. |
| 5 | Battery and reset | Use Favonius or Cryo particles to prepare the next rotation. |
Shenhe wants Cryo teammates. She can appear in Freeze, Mono Cryo, Reverse Melt, and Physical support teams, but her highest account value is usually with Cryo carries that hit often enough to consume Icy Quill efficiently.
| Team style | Example teammates | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Ayaka Freeze | Best when you want clean grouping, Freeze control, and a strong front-loaded Cryo window. | |
| Ganyu Freeze | Works well for charged-shot or Burst-focused Cryo damage in controlled fights. Add Hydro support for Freeze. | |
| Wriothesley Cryo | Use when Wriothesley is your carry and the team can keep him safe during melee windows. | |
| Mono Cryo | Easy to play when enemies cannot be Frozen or when Hydro setup is not worth the slot. | |
| Physical support | Add a Physical carry, Electro support, and defensive flex. | Viable because Burst shreds Physical RES, but this is less universal than Cryo support. |
C0 Shenhe is the correct baseline. Her early constellations can improve comfort and team ceiling, but they are not required for a functional Cryo support. For most accounts, a stronger Cryo carry, better artifacts, or a stable Energy setup is a better first upgrade than constellations.
| Priority | Recommendation | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| C0 | Best stopping point for most players | Enables her main Cryo support kit. |
| Favonius or ER solution | Often more important than premium weapon | A smooth rotation usually beats a higher ATK number that cannot Burst. |
| Calamity Queller | Luxury weapon | Good for dedicated Shenhe teams, but not required for normal clears. |
| C1-C2 | Only for committed Cryo accounts | Useful comfort and ceiling, but check team investment first. |
| High constellations | Whale endpoint | Avoid planning normal account value around them. |
Planning a Shenhe rerun budget?
Top up only after you decide whether your Cryo team needs C0, a weapon, or simply better artifacts.
Do not over-farm personal damage before solving Energy. Shenhe's best artifact pieces are often simple ATK and ER pieces that other supports ignore, which makes her cheaper to finish than many carries.
| Checklist item | Ready when |
|---|---|
| Burst uptime | Shenhe can Burst in the rotations where Cryo RES shred matters. |
| ATK stack | You have ATK% main stats with enough ER substats to stay smooth. |
| Favonius consistency | CRIT Rate is high enough to trigger particles when using Favonius Lance. |
| Cryo carry fit | The team has a carry who actually consumes Icy Quill. |
She can still work with Wriothesley, Mono Cryo, and some Physical support setups, but she is much harder to recommend if your account does not play Cryo teams often. Shenhe is a specialist pull: strongest when a Cryo carry can spend Icy Quill quickly and repeatedly.
Use ATK% for support. Shenhe's Icy Quill scales from her ATK, so ATK main stats usually give the team more value than personal Cryo damage. Cryo DMG builds are only for niche personal-damage variants, and those usually lose to stronger support uptime and team buffs.
Calamity Queller has the higher ATK ceiling, but Favonius Lance can be better in practice when the team needs Energy. If Favonius lets Shenhe Burst on time and helps the Cryo carry recharge, it often improves the whole rotation more than a premium weapon with unstable uptime.
No. C0 already gives the core Icy Quill support and Burst resistance shred. C1 is a comfort and ceiling upgrade because the extra Skill use can improve particles, Icy Quill access, and rotation flexibility, but it should come after your Cryo carry, Energy plan, and artifact basics are already settled.
Shenhe is a specialist, so her best build starts with the account question: do you actively play Cryo carries? If yes, stack ATK after solving Energy, use Noblesse or ATK sets based on what the team already has, and keep Favonius Lance in mind even when premium weapons look stronger on paper. If your account is not built around Cryo, she remains a luxury pull rather than a universal support.
