Town Hall 18 has not stayed mechanically identical since its November 2025 launch. Supercell first reacted to Meteor Golem's early dominance, then adjusted defenses, underused troops, Hero Equipment, Dragon Duke, air armies and several TH18-specific objects. The practical lesson is simple: an army or base guide written for launch may no longer describe the current game.

This timeline covers the official balance milestones through October 10, 2026. It separates exact published changes from Supercell's interpretation of its internal data. It does not turn one official chart or a selected war sample into a universal win-rate claim.

Quick answer: The largest TH18 balance story was a two-stage correction after launch. January reduced Meteor Golem's wall damage, followed by a broader January 28 nerf to its HP and DPS. Later updates reopened alternatives, adjusted TH18 defenses, reduced Dragon Duke and Dragon Rider strength, and partially restored Meteor Golem. Recheck any old guide built around launch Meteor Golem, pre-May Dragon Duke, Sky Wagon, Giant Arrow, Revenge Tower or TH18 air defense interactions.

The table is a navigation layer, not a replacement for the exact patch notes. Some changes apply to several Town Halls; the sections below highlight rows that can change TH18 army, Equipment or base decisions.

November 2025: the TH18 launch baseline

TH18 launched on November 17, 2025. Its unique defensive system is the Guardian: only one Guardian defends at a time, and Smasher and Longshot were the two launch choices. The update also introduced permanent Meteor Golem, Totem Spell, Revenge Tower and the merged Super Wizard Tower.

This baseline matters because TH18 was not merely a set of higher building levels. The Town Hall itself no longer behaved like the defensive Town Hall familiar from earlier levels, while Guardians and new crafted defenses changed pathing and target-value decisions. Advice copied directly from TH17 therefore needed retesting even before the first numeric nerf.

January 12: Meteor Golem's first correction

The first official post-launch balance pass cut Meteor Golem's damage against Walls by 50% at every level. It did not reduce the troop's general HP or DPS yet. That distinction matters: the change specifically reduced how efficiently the army could force routes through walls.

The same update tried to widen the pool of usable options. Druid received more healing but a 20% longer evolve time; Electro Dragon gained HP and DPS across levels; several Grand Warden Equipment pieces were buffed; and Longshot's range, search radius, alert range and splash radius were reduced. Smasher received larger attack and alert ranges.

An old attack guide that assumes launch-level Meteor Golem wall pressure or launch Longshot coverage is therefore stale even if its army list still exists in the game.

January 28: broader offense and defense retuning

The second January pass went further. Meteor Golem HP fell by roughly 13–16% and DPS by roughly 14–16% across levels. At the same time, Super Archer, Super Wizard, Thrower, Electro Titan, Super Minion and Poison Lizard were buffed. Supercell also adjusted defensive outliers rather than treating offense as the only problem.

Object Official change What to retest
Meteor Golem HP −13–16%; DPS −14–16% Tanking assumptions, entry timing and merge value
Revenge Tower Attack speed 300ms → 350ms; later stage thresholds 20/40 → 25/50 destroyed buildings Back-end base compartments and late-attack damage
Ricochet Cannon Bounce damage 100% → 70%; radius 4.5 → 3.5 tiles Packed troop paths and support-unit exposure
Multi Archer Tower Attack speed 500ms → 600ms; DPS reduced Swarm and healer survival calculations
Multi Gear Tower Short-range damage down about 10.6%; long-range damage up about 15% Mode selection and approach lanes
Thrower HP about +4%, DPS about +4–5%, speed 16 → 18 Thrower-Healer pathing and time budget

Supercell later described these January updates as Balance Update #1 and #2. Its March State of Gameplay post said the first pass did not immediately open the overall outcome gap, while the broader second pass reduced peak three-star rates and produced a less compressed distribution. That is Supercell's interpretation of internal data, not an independently reproducible ManaBuy calculation.

February and April: new content changed the comparison again

The February update added Dragon Duke and more TH18 levels. That means January's post-balance environment lasted only briefly before a sixth Hero and new Equipment entered players' testing. Dragon Duke's isolation mechanic rewards using him away from other flying troops, while his equipment created new entry and funnel patterns.

April's Sound of Clash update changed several interactions relevant to TH18. Poison damage was re-enabled against Guardians at 30% effectiveness. Siege Machines began taking damage from Firemite fires and became immune to several aura or poison effects. Totems became immune to Heroic Torch. Competitive battle modifiers were also restructured across Legend tiers.

These are rule changes, not merely percentage nudges. A replay or guide can remain visually convincing while depending on an interaction that no longer works the same way.

May: air-versus-ground balance moved again

May's pass was unusually broad. Giant Arrow began dealing double damage to Air Defenses, while its ordinary damage fell at key levels. The design goal was to make it a specialized anti-Air-Defense tool instead of repeatedly increasing its general damage whenever a new Air Defense level appeared.

Dragon Duke's Rocket Backpack and Fire Heart were reduced, and his trap damage reduction changed from 50% to 40%. Sky Wagon lost one barrel, one Minion and one spawned-unit level across its configurations. Level 6 Dragon Rider moved from 6,200 to 6,000 HP and from 520 to 510 DPS.

TH18 crafted defenses also moved in opposite directions. Lava Launcher received lower DPS, pool damage and range across much of its progression, easing pressure on ground attacks. Air Bombs gained range and faster attacks, while Roaster attacks became faster, wider and stronger. In practical terms, “air was buffed” or “ground was buffed” is too crude: the patch strengthened some anti-air defenses while weakening a ground-control defense and trimming prominent air tools.

July: Supercell targeted concentration, not every strong option

On July 9, Supercell said Dragon armies led by Dragon Duke and Dragon Riders appeared in roughly 20% of the TH18-versus-TH18 war attacks it reviewed. Together with Thrower-Healer armies, the two broad army types represented roughly 40% of that reviewed sample.

Those figures are useful signals, but the post does not disclose the raw denominator, exact observation dates or a downloadable match list. They should be read as officially disclosed internal analysis, not as a global public win-rate dataset.

The July pass reduced Dragon Duke's trap protection again and made a small top-level Dragon Rider reduction. Logger's rolling range was shortened. Electro Dragon's top levels gained HP and damage, Meteor Golem and Meteormites received the largest buff in that pass, and Druid healing increased at higher levels. Supercell explicitly said the earlier Meteor Golem nerfs had gone too far.

This is why patch history matters: “Meteor Golem was nerfed” is true but incomplete. It was nerfed twice early in the TH18 cycle and later partially restored. Current advice must use current values, not the strongest launch version or the weakest post-January version.

August and the current reviewed state

The August update did not announce another broad TH18 numeric rebalance. It added Diggy levels 11–15, new Builder's Hut and Monolith Supercharge levels, and changed Ruin Witch so she could summon up to ten Ruin Knights instead of eight; Ruin Knights also stopped losing health over time.

It also fixed interactions that can alter execution: Meteor Golem no longer loses Angry Spell effects and targeting when splitting, being thrown or merging. Dragon Duke's Rocket Backpack dash received multiple corrections, and Flame Blower was updated to fire in the direction Dragon Duke faces.

As of October 10, 2026, later official posts in the news archive focus on events, Ore and the UI revamp rather than a newer broad TH18 balance pass. August is therefore the latest reviewed TH18 gameplay update in this timeline, not a promise that no hotfix exists outside the listed official posts.

Which old TH18 guides should you retest?

Use this checklist before trusting an older army or base guide:

  • Retest any launch Meteor Golem guide for wall damage, HP, DPS and July restoration.
  • Retest pre-May Dragon Duke plans for trap reduction, Rocket Backpack and Flame Blower behavior.
  • Retest Sky Wagon and level 6 Dragon Rider numbers after May.
  • Retest Giant Arrow lineups: the Air Defense multiplier changed while general damage fell.
  • Retest Revenge Tower activation timing and late-stage coverage after January 28.
  • Retest Longshot, Smasher, poison and Guardian interactions.
  • Check whether the video or base link used the same Legend/CWL modifier environment you play now.
  • Treat a creator's success rate as that creator's sample unless the full population and window are published.

FAQ

What was the biggest TH18 nerf?

Meteor Golem received the clearest early two-step correction: 50% less damage against Walls on January 12, followed by roughly 13–16% less HP and 14–16% less DPS on January 28. July later buffed Meteor Golem and Meteormites because Supercell said the earlier reductions had gone too far.

Is Meteor Golem still usable after the nerfs?

The official July update deliberately brought it back toward consideration, but Supercell did not publish a universal success rate. Judge it against the current version, your mode and the exact base rather than relying on launch footage.

Did Dragon Duke get nerfed?

Yes. May reduced parts of Rocket Backpack and Fire Heart and changed trap damage reduction from 50% to 40%. July reduced trap protection again, while later updates repaired Rocket Backpack and Flame Blower interactions.

Are the official hit-rate charts global win rates?

No. The March chart covers Supercell's internal observations across named Ranked, Legend and High Legend environments. The July percentages describe a reviewed TH18-versus-TH18 war sample whose denominator and exact window were not published.

Does every TH18 balance change affect normal war and Legend equally?

Not always. Core unit values usually travel across modes, but battle modifiers and some competitive rules can change effective performance. Match the guide's mode and modifier tier to your own.

When should this timeline be refreshed?

Refresh it after any official troop, spell, Hero, Equipment, pet, Guardian, crafted-defense or TH18 defense change. A new State of Gameplay post with fresh internal data also triggers review.
