The Last War drone has three separate upgrade tracks: level uses Combat Data and Drone Parts, components merge into stronger global stats, and skill chips add squad-specific effects. Spend on the track closest to a meaningful breakpoint instead of declaring one resource universally best.

Three Drone Upgrade Tracks

Drone Level Milestones and Stop Lines

Parts are consumed at checkpoint levels through the early and mid game, then become much more demanding after the high-level thresholds. Before opening a Parts choice box, calculate whether it reaches the next checkpoint. If not, compare the immediate component or chip gain instead.

How Component Merging Works

The Skill Chip screen shows equipped slots and available chip copies. Review both before crafting, merging or replacing a chip. Last War chip lab tutorial.

Three copies of the same level are normally consumed to create the next level, and the equipped copy counts toward the total shown by the interface. That is why a screen may show two required while one is already installed. Read the merge preview before confirming.

Community advice often favors offensive components, but the correct order depends on the fight. If the front row dies before the drone cycles, a defensive or hero-survival component can outperform more theoretical damage.

Skill Chip Priority

Combat symptomChip direction
Front line collapses at battle startInitial Move or Defense
Drone hits but damage is lowAttack
Long fights need follow-up damageInterference
Second squad uses another troop typeDo not feed its matching chips into the first set
  1. Equip one coherent set for the main squad.
  2. Reach the first useful Resonance/Combat Boost threshold.
  3. Upgrade the chip that fixes the measured combat bottleneck.
  4. Keep troop-type chips for future squads.
  5. Recheck after a major squad or season change.

Common Drone Mistakes

  • Opening component boxes outside the scoring day.
  • Using every Parts box while still far from the next checkpoint.
  • Feeding rare troop-type chips that a second squad will need.
  • Following one universal offensive order without reading battle reports.

Read Battle Reports Before Choosing Offense

If the frontline survives but the timer expires, offensive components and Attack/Interference chips have the clearest case. If the frontline collapses before the second drone cycle, survival can add more total damage than another attack stat. If the drone contributes little because the squad itself is underbuilt, hero gear or research may be the better use of a universal event choice box.

Conclusion

Upgrade the drone by breakpoint, not habit. Reach the next meaningful level, keep components balanced around the fight you are losing, build one coherent chip set and time every large opening with the correct event day.
