Nightmare Trial changes the usual War Tide rhythm by rewarding both exploration and combat. Players collect Giggle Coins, compete for leaderboard position, and prepare for the moment when the top-ranked player becomes the Clown’s spokesperson and receives a chainsaw. The mode takes place on nighttime Shutter Island, so visibility, route choice, and knowing when to end a chase matter just as much as raw gun skill.

Quick answer: Build a safe exploration route early, take only fights you can finish quickly, and watch the Giggle Coin ranking before the spokesperson is selected. If you lead, move to a position with cover and more than one exit. If you are chasing the leader, do not sprint straight at the chainsaw—other squads will be hunting the same target.

How Nightmare Trial works

The official mode description confirms that searching and fighting both award Giggle Coins. Players are ranked by the total they collect, and the Clown rewards high-ranking competitors. After a set amount of time, the player in first place is chosen as the Clown’s spokesperson and receives his chainsaw. Special hunting missions also appear during the match.

That structure creates two connected objectives. First, increase your coin total without losing too much health, ammunition, or time. Second, prepare for the spokesperson phase before it begins. A player who reaches first place in the wrong position can quickly become the center of every nearby squad’s attention.

Opening
Search with a route

Gather coins and gear while moving toward cover, information, and the next safe area.

Mid match
Track rank and risk

Take fights that improve your position or coin total without creating a long chase.

Selection
Play around the leader

Protect your exits if you lead; use other hunters as pressure if you are behind.

How to collect Giggle Coins without wasting the match

Because both exploration and combat contribute coins, the mode does not force one fixed playstyle. The practical goal is to compare reward with exposure. Safe searching is valuable when you still need equipment or when nearby fights would take too long. Combat becomes attractive when an isolated enemy, a distracted squad, or a hunting mission offers a short route to more coins.

1. Finish the safe search first

Do not chase the first gunshot before you have a workable weapon, armor, healing, and a route out of the area.

2. Prefer fights with a clear finish

Target isolated players or opponents already under pressure. Break off when darkness, distance, or missing information turns the chase into a coin-and-resource drain.

3. Approach hunting missions from cover

A mission can pull several teams toward the same location. Check high ground, entrances, and escape lanes before moving directly onto the objective.

What to do when the Clown’s spokesperson is selected

The confirmed rule is simple: after a certain amount of time, the player ranked first in total Giggle Coins becomes the Clown’s spokesperson and receives the chainsaw. The official announcement does not explain every chainsaw stat or every condition that may affect the role, so the safest strategy is to treat it as a close-range pressure tool rather than assuming it guarantees a win.

If you are the leader

Move before the selection into a position that cannot be collapsed from every direction. Keep a ranged weapon ready, preserve an exit, and do not let the chainsaw tempt you into crossing open ground.

If you are hunting the leader

Avoid a direct tunnel-vision chase. Listen for another squad, hold the spokesperson’s likely exit, and enter only when you can avoid being pinched by competing hunters.

Check the live HUD: the official patch notes do not specify every detail about coin loss, coin transfer, role visibility, or chainsaw retention. Read the current mode instructions and leaderboard indicators at the start of the match.

Surviving nighttime Shutter Island

Night maps make transitions between bright and dark areas more dangerous. The problem is not only lower visibility; it is the temptation to keep moving while your eyes and crosshair have not cleared the next angle. Use a repeatable scan order—close corner, doorway, high ground, then long lane—whenever you enter a new area.

  • Check windows, roofs, and side passages before entering a building.
  • Move from one piece of cover to the next instead of running while staring into a single dark corner.
  • When you hear footsteps, identify the likely exit rather than pushing by the shortest path.
  • Keep teammates close enough to trade, but do not stack everyone in one doorway.

Weapon changes that matter in the same update

The Nightmare Trial update also adjusted several weapons. These changes do not create one universal best gun, but they affect which range and aiming habits each option rewards.

Reload speed increased moderately. Heavy Trigger adds one damage to all body parts, helping close-range fights end a little faster.

Upper-chest damage increased from 23 to 25, and distance damage drop-off was reduced, supporting controlled mid-range fights.

The Armor-Piercing Magazine gains headshot damage but loses chest, abdomen, and limb damage. It now rewards cleaner head-level aim.

Bizon also received a slight reload-speed increase. Its 32-Round R.I.P Drum gained headshot damage and a reload-speed boost. Because the available Bizon screenshot uses a non-English interface, it is intentionally omitted from this English version rather than presented as an English visual.

How the VOX nerfs change a fight

VOX lost some of his gunfight and disruption advantage. Sonic Overdrive’s delayed-damage ratio fell from 30% to 25%. Sonic Grenade’s interference duration per wave dropped from three seconds to two, while its slow fell from 30% to 25%. Distortion Pulse at level five now reduces view-rotation speed by 20% instead of 50%.

These reductions create more room to respond, but Sonic Grenade can still disrupt a dark indoor push. When hit, break line of sight and identify the enemy’s entry route before returning fire. Do not assume the nerf makes VOX harmless.

Use New Player Academy if the mode feels overwhelming

The same update added New Player Academy, which lets players review out-of-match guides and image tutorials. If Nightmare Trial exposes gaps in movement, healing, Shop usage, or team coordination, use the Academy to review the basics before another night match. The official mode announcement does not state that Gold is required to enter. Gold is used for optional eligible in-game purchases such as skins or passes.

Final advice

Nightmare Trial rewards players who can grow their Giggle Coin total without losing control of position. Connect safe searching with short, informed fights, and plan for the spokesperson phase before the timer reaches it. On nighttime Shutter Island, ending a bad chase and keeping an exit route are often more valuable than forcing one more elimination.

Mode rules and balance values were checked against the official Blood Strike English update announcement. If the live game changes a rule or interface prompt, follow the current in-game information.
