In Punishing: Gray Raven, some of the most intense fights come from story-exclusive bosses that test your timing, skill, and knowledge of parry mechanics. Whether you’re advancing through Chapter 14 or diving into the EX missions, knowing how to deal with these enemies is key to effective progression. This guide breaks down the three major enemies: Polymerized Mother Structure, Luna, and Lamia, and gives you gameplay insights to gain the upper hand.
💡 When this boss prepares a parryable attack, your screen zooms out slightly—a key signal to react. What’s unique about this encounter is that any type of attack (basic, signal orb, or signature) can be used to parry.
A successful parry can deal massive damage and knock the boss out. Strategic parries can even prevent its enhanced attack chains from triggering at low health thresholds, making this the first and most technically parryable boss in the game.
First seen in Chapter EX-03, Luna is more than just a boss—she’s a special Ascendant agent wielding powerful Heteromer weapons infected by the Punishing Virus. Her battles are cinematic and deadly, demanding focus and fast reactions.
When Luna's health drops to 50%, she enters a power-up state, during which she attacks more frequently. At the start of her second phase, she will always charge up for a devastating attack. However, it's not inevitable, and the trick is to deal enough damage during the charge to interrupt her, causing her to be knocked back and drop a signal orb.
Timing your burst damage during this moment can make or break the fight. Her fight is a test of both damage output and orb management—perfect for advanced players.
Lamia is the second boss to use the parry mechanic. All characters can parry some of this enemy's attacks using any attack method (regular attack, signal orb, or shadow attack). Whenever this boss is about to make a parryable attack, its weapon will glow red. Parrying this enemy does not cause any real damage to it, but if parried enough times, it will be temporarily knocked down. This can also cause it to be stunned in the second stage; while stunned, the player will deal greatly increased damage to it.
From the mechanical precision of the Polymerized Mother Structure, to the raw power of Luna, and the deceptive illusions of Lamia, each story-exclusive boss in Punishing: Gray Raven offers a unique test of skill. If you can master the parrying skills, grasp the burst timing and read the animation, it may mean that you can fight the boss smoothly. If you can't master these skills, you can upgrade your equipment or top-up your resources.
