With the release of Genshin Impact Version 6.4, travelers have finally set foot in the outskirts of Snezhnaya's frozen wilderness. Guarding the path to the Zapolyarny Palace is a new, formidable World Boss: the Radiant Moongecko. This glowing, amphibious predator combines agility with devastating Cryo and Hydro attacks, freezing unprepared teams in their tracks.
Farming this boss is mandatory for players who pulled for the highly anticipated Grand Master Varka or the mysterious Lohen, as it drops the exclusive "Lunar Fin" ascension material. However, the Moongecko is not a simple DPS check. Its unique "Stealth Cloak" mechanics and "Moonlight Shield" require specific elemental counters and precise timing.
In this comprehensive guide, we will dissect the Radiant Moongecko's attack patterns, reveal the best teams to counter its mechanics (including F2P options), and show you how to unlock all the hidden achievements associated with this fight.

Location: The Radiant Moongecko resides in the "Hollowed Glacial Cave" in the northernmost region of Snezhnaya, known as the Frost-Bitten Tundra.
How to Unlock:
1. Reach Adventure Rank 40+.
2. Complete the World Quest "Shadows in the Snow" (Part of the Tsaritsa Final Act Story Quest chain).
3. Navigate to the cave entrance marked on the map; you will need to solve a simple light-refraction puzzle to enter.
The Radiant Moongecko has two distinct phases. Understanding these is key to survival.
Upon engaging, the boss will frequently turn Invisible. While invisible, it cannot be auto-targeted by catalysts or bow users.
Counter Strategy:
- Watch for "Shimmering Footsteps" on the icy ground.
- Use AoE (Area of Effect) skills to hit the empty space.
- Electro attacks are highly effective here. Hitting the invisible boss with Electro triggers "Superconduct," revealing it immediately and stunning it for 5 seconds.
Once its HP drops below 70%, the Moongecko enters a rage state. It summons a Cryo-Hydro Shield (The "Moonlight Ward").
Shield Properties:
- Reduces all incoming damage by 80%.
- Periodically fires homing "Moonbeams" that freeze characters.
- Weakness: The shield is extremely weak to Pyro (Melt/Vaporize) and Dendro (Bloom/Burning).
The Radiant Moongecko is immune to Frozen (obviously) and has high Resistance to Cryo and Hydro. Do NOT bring a Freeze team (like Ayaka/Ganyu) or a Mono-Hydro team (Neuvillette/Furina without reaction support).
This is the fastest clearing team.

Character |
Role |
Why it works |
|
Arlecchino / Hu Tao |
Main DPS |
High Pyro application melts the shield instantly. |
|
Yelan / Xingqiu |
Sub-DPS |
Provides Vaporize (works even though boss is Hydro resistant, as you need Hydro to clear Pyro aura if you mess up). *Correction: Boss applies Cryo/Hydro to itself, so Pyro is better alone.* Better to use Bennett here. |
|
Zhongli |
Shielder |
Prevents interruption during the boss's agile attacks. |
|
Kazuha |
Buffer |
Swirls Pyro for massive damage boost. |
Excellent for breaking the Invisibility phase.
Electro + Pyro creates Overload, which staggers the boss heavily, preventing it from using its annoying Tongue Lash grab.
If you are saving Primogems for the Varka Banner, use this budget team.

There are 3 hidden achievements connected to the Radiant Moongecko.
"Now You See Me...": Paralyze the Radiant Moongecko while it is invisible.
Tip: Use Fischl's Oz or Yae Miko's turrets. They auto-lock onto the invisible boss. When the boss enters stealth, cast Oz immediately.
"Solar Eclipse": Destroy the Moonlight Shield within 5 seconds of it activating.
Tip: Save Bennett's Burst and Xiangling's Pyronado. The moment the white shield bar appears, unleash everything.
"Indigestion": Defeat the boss while a character is being swallowed/grabbed.
Tip: This requires co-op or lingering damage (DoT). Get the boss to 1% HP, let it grab you, and let Oz or Pyronado finish it off.
This boss drops Lunar Fins and Shivada Jade (Cryo) / Varunada Lazurite (Hydro) gems.
Characters requiring Lunar Fins:
Resin Efficiency: Since Varka and Lohen are releasing in the same patch cycle, you will need approximately 92 Boss Drops to max both. That is roughly 35-40 runs. We recommend saving your Fragile Resin or using ManaBuy to stock up on Genesis Crystals for resin refreshes if you want them Day 1.
Version 6.4 is a major patch. With Varka finally becoming playable after years of waiting, the demand for resources is at an all-time high.
The "Grand Master" Prep Kit:
1. Genesis Crystals: Buying the double-bonus packs via ManaBuy is the most cost-effective way to guarantee Varka's C0 and his signature weapon.
2. Welkin Moon: Ensure you have 100+ days stacked. The daily gems add up during the banner duration.
3. Battle Pass (Gnostic Hymn): The 6.4 Battle Pass reportedly includes a new Claymore that is a solid 4-star option for Varka.
If you are still building characters from the previous patch, check our Zibai Materials Guide to ensure you aren't spending resin on the wrong bosses.
Q: Can I co-op this boss?
A: Yes. Co-op is actually easier because if one player gets swallowed, the others can break the boss's poise to free them instantly.
Q: Is Dendro good against it?
A: Yes. Dendro + Electro (Quicken/Aggravate) works well to reveal the boss. Dendro + Pyro (Burning) destroys the shield quickly. However, Bloom (Hydro + Dendro) is less effective due to the boss's high Hydro RES.
Q: Why does my auto-target fail?
A: During the Invisible phase, auto-target is disabled for most skills. You must manually aim AoE skills or use turrets (Fischl/Yae/Furina's Salon members) which bypass this restriction.
Q: Does the boss respawn instantly?
A: Like all World Bosses, it has a 3-minute respawn timer. You must teleport away from the arena and come back for it to respawn.
Q: Is this boss harder than the Tulpa?
A: Mechanically, yes. It moves much faster and has invulnerability phases (stealth). However, its HP pool feels slightly lower than the Hydro Tulpa.
The Radiant Moongecko is a visually stunning but mechanically punishing boss that serves as the gatekeeper for Snezhnaya's elite characters. By bringing a strong Pyro or Electro team and utilizing the auto-targeting capabilities of sub-DPS units like Fischl, you can turn this apex predator into simple loot.
Prepare your resin, level up your Bennett, and visit ManaBuy for the latest updates on Varka's kit and weapon stats. The hunt is on!
